Tamara was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland , and she currently resides in
Williamsburg, Virginia. A self - taught  Artist who's influences can be traced
through the cultures of her own heritage and her mother's commitment to giving her
a vast background in textiles. Tamara's pieces are always devoted to the early functional
crafts of Africa, the Americas and Asia -- mostly the mask and carved figures that she loves
and to her own need to add the textures of woven fabrics. She work's in the basic plant fibers,
metal and clay that ancient artisans used to create the pieces that were a part of their every-
day lives. Tamara also uses many of the same tools and processes, like looming, as those
early  craftsman. She gathers her own materials from the earth as often as she can, and
also mixes them with modern products. Tamara thinks of her work as a synthesis of cultures
past, and her own times as a woman, mother and artist.
Cultural synthesis is the intertwining of cultures, ideas, and techniques the discovery of a
whole new way of creating. In her work Tamara blurs the lines between the cultures.
Tamara had the privilege to work as a traveling artist for the Virginia Fine Arts Museum,
teaching bead - weaving techniques. The Renwick Gallery National Museum of American
Art exhibited Tamara 's work. In 07 she was honored to be the Finalist Judge for the
Virginia Pilot Student Gallery at the Chrysler Museum Of Art. In addition, the Riverside
Cancer Center purchased one of her pieces to display in there Fireplace Room. In the
future Tamara is devoting more time to commercial work and devolving her brand. You can
find Tamara at some of the juried out door shows in Williamsburg, Va.
